About

Over 99 detours from Hamburg to Apulia Hanno Rinke is almost there. Satisfied, he can look back on a fulfilled life. Nevertheless, and driven by a thirst for adventure, he travels through the stations of his life again. More precisely, it can be, driven, sometimes in a Mercedes, sometimes in a wheelchair. Together with Silke and Rafal, the companions of his age, Hanno travels for seven weeks over 99 detours from his hometown Hamburg to Apulia, his place of longing, and back again. On the way, the trio stops at those places, inns and beaches that Hanno associates with formative memories: of his childhood, of passionate nights as a (young) man, of artists from his professional life and of follies that are too beautiful to be left out. The trip into the past, which is determined less by sentimentality than by curiosity, offers ample, opportunity to ponder world events, politics, religion, age and of course sex. Hanno observes and analyzes his environment and himself relentlessly and pointedly. A wonderfully subjective travelogue full of history and stories, experienced and imagined, uncomfortable and forgiving.
